For Kenshi overseas, simply purchasing new equipment can be expensive and difficult. Furthermore, youth kenshi are in a period of rapid growth, and it's common to see kendo-gi and hakama that don't fit properly.
The Japan Kendo Federation's regulations go beyond simply requiring the wearing of protective gear; they also precisely regulate the condition and manner in which it should be worn to maintain dignity.
Just as the shinai is considered a samurai's sword, the kendo-gi and hakama are the samurai's formal attire and are NOT simply athletic wear. Unfortunately, people often practice in kendo gear that is the wrong size or in poor condition, simply because they are still children or beginners. We would like to know if we can help dispel the circumstances behind this current situation. We are launching Canada's first kendo thrift shop, driven by our passion to offer high-quality Japanese brands of kendo equipment in good condition at affordable prices, often not available in Canada. We would love to share the beauty of kendo attire.
